Seated at the front of the auditorium, four women told their stories. Each story was vastly different.
Colleen McTigue spoke about her experience as a transgender woman. Next was Madeline LeBlanc who spoke about her experience as the 2015 first princess of the Welland Royal Court and what her job as a role model and community partner meant and gave to her. Patricia Robles was up next and spoke about her life as a woman growing up in Mexico, moving to Canada, raising her two sons on her own while learning to speak English and starting a new life after her husband moved back to Mexico. The speakers ended with Josie Lavalley, who spoke bravely and eloquently about rising above an abusive past and how she has risen above it, not seeing herself as a victim or survivor, but as a messenger.
